Roll Coating Services
Industrial rolls in steel, paper, and textile lines face constant frictional wear, heat, and corrosive exposure. Our thermal spray roll coating services restore worn rolls and protect new ones, extending service life and reducing unplanned line stoppages.
Key Benefits
Extended Roll Life
Tungsten carbide and ceramic coatings significantly extend the service life of rolls exposed to continuous frictional wear, reducing the frequency of costly replacements.
Reduced Line Downtime
Restoring worn rolls to original dimensions through coating and precision grinding avoids the longer lead times of sourcing new roll bodies.
Roll Refurbishment
Worn rolls can often be recoated and reground rather than scrapped, recovering value from existing roll bodies.
Corrosion Protection
Coatings such as chrome oxide and tungsten carbide protect roll surfaces from corrosive process environments in addition to mechanical wear.
Precision Dimensional Restoration
Coated rolls are ground to the exact original diameter and surface finish specification required for proper line operation.
ISO 9001:2015 Certified
Every roll coating job is carried out under our certified quality management system, with over 2,000 rolls coated to date.
Materials
| Roll Type | Typical Industry | Common Coating |
|---|---|---|
| Bridle rolls | Steel — continuous galvanizing/annealing lines | HVOF Tungsten Carbide (WC-Co) |
| Deflector rolls | Steel processing lines | HVOF Tungsten Carbide (WC-Co) |
| Rewinder rolls | Paper and pulp | Ceramic / Chrome Oxide |
| Godet rolls | Textile | Ceramic Coating |
| Capstans and drums | Wire and cable | HVOF Tungsten Carbide (WC-Co) |
Our Process
1. Roll Inspection
Incoming rolls are inspected for wear, runout, and surface condition to determine the coating and grinding allowance required.
2. Surface Preparation
Worn coating (if any) is stripped and the roll surface is grit-blasted to achieve the profile needed for coating adhesion.
3. Coating Application
The roll is coated using the process best suited to its application — HVOF, plasma spray, or arc spray — to the specified thickness.
4. Precision Grinding
The coated roll is ground to the original diameter and surface finish specification, then inspected before dispatch.
Frequently Asked Questions
What types of rolls can be coated?
We coat a wide range of industrial rolls including bridle rolls, deflector rolls, rewinder rolls, godet rolls, and capstans, used across steel, paper and pulp, and textile industries.
Can worn rolls be recoated instead of replaced?
Yes. Worn rolls can typically be stripped, recoated, and precision ground back to their original dimensions, avoiding the cost and lead time of a new roll body.
What coatings are used for roll refurbishment?
The most common choices are HVOF tungsten carbide for high-wear steel processing rolls, and ceramic or chrome oxide coatings for paper, pulp, and textile rolls.
How is roll dimensional accuracy maintained after coating?
Coated rolls are precision ground to the exact original diameter, roundness, and surface finish specification required for correct line operation.
