Extending Bridle & Deflector Roll Life on Continuous Galvanizing Lines

Learn how HVOF Tungsten Carbide-Cobalt (WC-Co) coatings help steel manufacturers reduce soft-metal pick-up, improve roll performance, and minimize unplanned maintenance on continuous galvanizing and annealing lines.

The Challenge

On continuous GAL (galvanizing) and CAL (annealing) lines, bridle and deflector rolls run in constant contact with strip surfaces at operating temperatures up to 800°C.

Soft aluminum and zinc from the coated strip tend to pick up on the roll surface, degrading grip, causing strip marking, and forcing frequent roll changeouts and re-machining.

The Solution

Plasma Spray Processors applies a Tungsten Carbide-Cobalt (WC-Co) HVOF coating engineered specifically to resist soft-metal pick-up while withstanding sustained high-temperature service.

This coating is trusted by leading Indian steel manufacturers including JSW, AMNS India, and Tata Steel for their continuous GAL and CAL lines.

  • WC-Co coating system resists aluminum and zinc adhesion on the roll surface.
  • Rated for continuous operation at temperatures up to 800°C.
  • Maintains consistent grip and strip tracking across production runs.

The Result

  • Reduced soft-metal pick-up and strip marking on bridle and deflector rolls.
  • Fewer unplanned roll changeouts on continuous lines.
  • Coating performance validated across multiple steel-industry production environments.
